Bright strawberry, bing cherry and hard candy on the palate. 50% wild yeast fermentation. This wine came from G Block and exhibits the characteristics of mature vines and low yields--full extraction, balance and finesse as well the mineral components of the Tepusquet Formation that underlies this great vineyard site. We are fortunate and grateful to make wine from such intense fruit. This fleshy wine drank well on release but should also continue to develop in the bottle for 5 to 8 years. 1998 Pinot Noir - Laetitia Vineyard (formerly La Colline) - Arroyo Grande Valley Medium dark ruby color with crushed strawberry and cherry on the palate. This wine has a firm core of fruit that still needs some time to unwind. However aeration in the mouth reveals layers of fruit, mineral, wood and spice and a long, sweet and expansive finish. This wine soft tannins which will make it very approachable upon release but with enough structure for aging of 5 to 8 years and probably longer. 1998 Pinot Noir - Arroyo Grande Valley Medium ruby color with crushed strawberry and cherry on the palate. The
nose is spicy with some mineral accents. This Pinot Noir has plenty of lush
fruit but a tight core. Dark saturated ruby in color, this powerful wine exhibits the more masculine
components of Pinot Noir. Damson and berry flavors on the palate mingle
with scents of forest floor, bacon and wood smoke. In the mouth, the heft
and density of the wine are balanced by a smooth sweet finish. This vineyard
produces very distinctive fruit that we are grateful to be able to work
with. As with our other Pinot Noir, this wine is approachable upon release
but should also contjnue to develop in the bottle for 5 to 8 years. Medium dark ruby with aromas of cinnamon, cloves, sandalwood and exotic
spices. Bright strawberry, cherry, framboise and hard candy on the palate.
Named in memory of Evelyn Waldron, mother of Bill Cates, a beautiful, gracious
woman whose generosity and faith helped make Tantara Winery a reality. This
wine exhibits those characteristics that we feel make a wine great - balance,
suppleness, elegance and mystery. It will be produced in those vintages
that meet these standards. Medium straw color. This Chardonnay did not go through malolactic fermentation which preserved the beautiful, ripe fruit characteristics. This wine is crisp and supple with apple, pear, mineral and a hint of citrus on the palate. The flinty and focused character of this offering makes it an idea food wine. 1998 Chardonnay - Talley Vinyard - Arroyo Grande Valley Straw color with a glint of green. A complex nose of floral aromas and
mineral with ginger, pineapple and cocnut on the palate. This concentrated
Chardonnay with a long hazelnut finish will stand up to rich dishes such
as lobster. Medium straw color with gold highlights. This wine is well-balanced with
creamy and nutty flavors and a hint of almond. This style of Pinot Blanc
emphasizes the ripe fruit characeristics, but its structure and long finish
make a very food friendly wine. This offering of 100% Sangiovese is medium ruby in color with aromas of raspberries and lavender. On the plate the wine is supple, finely balanced and redolent of dried cherries. This wine was aged in three year old French oak and bottled unfiltered for maximum expression of fruit character. We recommend this wine with traditional Italian cuisine. |
