2005 VINTAGE - UPDATES
& TASTING NOTES
VINTAGE 2005 - FALL RELEASE
As we offer the last of our 2005 wines, it is a good time to revisit the
vintage. Lush and bountiful, we are happy with how the wines are developing.
There is richness on the palate and significant structure both tannin and
acidity to support the fruit. We thank all of you across the country and
abroad who have supported the 2005 wines – restaurants, retailers,
distributors and all who are on the mailing list and members of our wine
programs Pinot 101 and Tour 101. This Fall Release will highlight several
appellations as well as a special Pinot Noir available in very limited quantities
(winery only). Please see wine descriptions for further details. We hope
you enjoy this offering.
2005
Harvest started September 6 – well things busted loose after that
and the fruit kept on coming. There was a plethora, an abundance, a veritable
cornucopia of grapes from hither and yon. Fermenters were full as were cellars.
We all wondered when this bountiful harvest would end. Come October (or
was it November), the new wine was in barrel and the doors to the winery
could barely contain our vintage but we could barely contain our glee as
well. The new vintage, could it be like 1999 in Burgundy or 1959 or 1945.
All these were years when a large harvest combined with perfect ripening
conditions to produce undeniably great wines. Rarely do we see the grower
and the winemaker equally happy as in 2005 in the Central Coast of California.
In barrel, the wines show tremendous purity and delineation of site as well
as depth and structure. We will bottle the first of our 2005 Pinot Noir
in November 2006 and the single vineyards will be bottled in early February
2007. We are looking forward to presenting this very promising vintage to
you in Spring 2007.
